January 2019 Recruitment / Application (Semester 2)

Due to an overwhelming number of applications every year for the NOC programme, we want to send the best students we have on our internships. That's why it is important for you to read the following information to know if you fulfill our requirements:

  • Students should have an interest in entrepreneurship-related activities and want to experience experiential education.
  • Students should possess the maturity to thrive in a foreign and highly competitive environment.
  • Students on scholarships must check with their scholarship administrators first on their eligibility to participate in the NOC before applying.
  • Selected candidates will however only be permitted to embark on this programme after meeting the eligibility criteria as stated above and after successful selection by NOC.
  • NUS Overseas Colleges reserves the right to withdraw the applications of selected candidates and decide on the intake year for these applicants.
  • Students are required to submit the following documents:
    • Curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Essay of not more than 300 words, telling us why you will make a good candidate for this programme. Your essay should cover your entrepreneurial aspirations and how you think you will benefit from the programme, among other things.
    • NUS Unofficial Transcript. Please refer to the step by step guide to obtain unofficial transcript and you may click here to access the Student Information System.
    • At least 2 testimonials/recommendation letters. Your referees do not necessarily have to be affiliated to NUS but they should not be friends or next-of-kin. They should write your testimonial in an official capacity, e.g. former employer; current lecturer; office bearer of a club in which you are active; etc. Your referees should know you well enough to provide a credible evaluation of your entrepreneurial qualities, vouch for your personality and skillsets, and testify to your ability to cope with challenges and failures.
      Please upload the recommendation letters or testimonials through NOC’s application portal. If your referees prefer to submit the testimonials in confidence to NOC, they can send the testimonials to nocapplication@nus.edu.sg and indicate your name and matriculation number in the email. Submission of testimonials is recommendable before you attend interview. However, you can submit your testimonials within a week after your interview.


Beijing / New York / Shanghai / Silicon Valley / Stockholm / Toronto

  • Students should be enrolled in full-time NUS undergraduate courses.
  • Students should have completed 4 semesters of study and/or individually gained about 70-80 modular credits at the point of departure and MUST have at least one remaining semester of study upon return to NUS without exceeding their maximum candidature.
  • First year undergraduate students are welcome to apply for this programme. You will be part of the "Friends of NOC" programme where you can learn more about the programme and you will be informed of the interview dates at a later time.
  • Students are allowed to fulfill Industrial Attachments (IA) or internship modules or Final Year Project (FYP) using NOC programme, however, subject to NOC's and Faculty's approval.
  • Students of Chinese nationality are not eligible to apply for NOC Beijing or NOC Shanghai
Note: All students on NOC programme MUST have at least one remaining semester of study on upon return to NUS without exceeding their maximum candidature.

Israel / Beijing / Lausanne / Munich

  • Students should be enrolled in full-time NUS undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • First year undergraduate students are welcome to apply for this programme. You will be part of the "Friends of NOC" programme where you can learn more about the programme and you will be informed of the interview dates at a later time.
  • Undergraduate students should have obtained about 70-80 modular credits at the point of departure and MUST have at least one remaining semester of study upon return to NUS without exceeding their maximum candidature.
  • Graduate students should have completed at least one semester of studies at NUS at the point of departure.
  • Students of Chinese nationality are not eligible to apply for NOC Beijing (6-month).
  • NOC Lausanne and NOC Munich are ONLY open for January intake and applicable for undergraduates and post-graduates. For post-graduate students ONLY the following faculty or department can apply:
    • Faculty of Engineering (only applicable for MSc - Management of Technology students and for other Engineering Master Programme, it is subjected to the Programme structure and degree requirement of the programme)
    • School of Computing
    • Institute of Systems Science (ISS)

Singapore

  • Students should be enrolled in full-time NUS undergraduate courses.
  • Students should have completed 2 semesters of study and/or individually gained about 40 modular credits at the start of the internship.
  • Students should have at least one remaining semester after the end of the programme.
  • Students are allowed to fulfill Internship Attachments (IA) or internship modules using NOC programme, however, subject to Faculty's approval.

SE Asia

  • 3 months internship from May to August
  • Students should be enrolled in full-time NUS undergraduate courses.
  • Students should have completed 2 semesters of study and/or individually gained about 40 modular credits at the start of the internship.
  • Students should have at least one remaining semester after the end of the programme.
  • Students are allowed to fulfill Internship Attachments (IA) or internship modules using NOC programme, however, subject to Faculty's approval.
Note: All students on NOC programme MUST have at least one remaining semester of study on upon return to NUS without exceeding their maximum candidature.

Compulsory Courses / Preparatory sessions

Upon selected for NOC programme, compulsory attendance is required for the following courses / preparatory sessions in Singapore. NOC reserves the right to withdraw the offer should students fail to attend the courses / sessions. These dates are tentative and may be subjected to changes. The confirmed dates or schedule will be provided to students once you have been officially accepted the NOC Offer.

Note:
In general, you are not advised to travel between Apr-Jul (for July Intake) / Oct-Dec (for January Intake) as there are NOC activities that require your presence (absence could result to withdrawal or you being not accepted by the NOC programme in the end). There will also be urgent NOC activities such as visa application, insurance briefing, overseas manager’s briefing and CV writing workshop (for e.g.: CV writing workshop for NOC Israel will be conducted in Singapore) which will require you to be in Singapore. If you complete your internship placement, have applied for your visa and have also attended the NOC briefings, workshop and etc, there may be small windows where you can take a short vacation for a week or so prior to final pre-departure briefing, visa collection and departure. Selected students can only check for the available dates with overseas manager after we link you up with the overseas manager and of course after you have been officially offered by NOC.
