On To The Next BIG Thing

Rise of the serial entrepreneur
Mobile security start-up tenCube made international waves in 2010, when it was acquired by McAfee, a subsidiary of Intel, and the world’s largest dedicated security technology company. Now, three of its four NUS alumni co-founders are back in the start-up arena to build the next big thing.

  • Rishi Israni, alumnus from NUS School of Computing, invested in and joined Zimplistic as its CEO, a start-up company developing an automatic roti-maker called Rotimatic
  • Darius Cheung, alumnus from NUS Faculty of Engineering, Electrical and Computer Department, launched BillPin, a mobile app to track shared bills
  • Varun Chatterji, alumnus from NUS School of Computing set up Sent.ly, a transactional/ marketing SMS product that provides innovative SMS solutions for businesses in emerging markets.

All three serial entrepreneurs are back within NUS Enterprise’s start-up ecosystem.
The entrepreneurial journey with NUS
The decision to return to the NUS Enterprise community was a deliberate one. Darius and Varun’s innovative spark was ignited while on a year-long overseas entrepreneurial internship programme with NUS Overseas Colleges in Silicon Valley. Soon after, tenCube received incubation support from NUS Enterprise, including mentorship and linkages to global markets. As shared by Darius, “We’ve always dreamt of becoming entrepreneurs and are grateful for the opportunity to have started out within the NUS Enterprise environment. Now that we’ve grown and sold tenCube, we wanted to come back to NUS Enterprise to start over, due to the great support and community. I’m also mentoring and investing in a few NUS Enterprise companies, so it is wonderful to continue to be part of the NUS Enterprise family.”
