WHAT IS THE BIG FOODIVATE CHALLENGE?

Have an idea about how Singapore can do food better? Whether you’re thinking about increasing local food production, providing healthier options at mealtime, or creating better ways for us to use our food and packaging waste, we want to hear from you!

The Big Foodivate Challenge is a pitching competition that seeks the best ideas from young local talent to help Singapore reach it’s 30 by 30 goal of achieving 30% food security by 2030.

Applications can be submitted to one of three categories:

1. Protein Alternatives: How can we cope with the rapid demand for Meat and Seafood consumption, which will rise by 33% by 2030 in Asia and outpace supply?
2. Functional Nutrition: Non-communicable diseases claim 55% of all deaths in South East Asia. How can we sustainably produce healthy functional and nutritious food products?
3. Food Waste/Loss and Sustainable Packaging: By 2030 Asia will be the biggest global generator of food waste contributing around 500 million tonnes per year. How can we upcycle or recycle this waste?

The Challenge will be held in two rounds. All initial applications in the first round will have their applications evaluated by the team at Big Idea Ventures.

The Top 3 finalists in each category will then be selected to move forward in the second round for live judging via our inaugural event, on August 15th held online this year!

Here are the main things we will be looking out for from stand-out applicants:

• Innovation
• Creativity
• Feasibility

Secondarily, we will also look at team composition and the effectiveness of the pitch as a presentation.

KEY DATES

• Finalists Announced: August 10th, 2020
• Live Pitch Day: August 15th, 2020

PRIZES

The winning teams in each category stand to win up to $2000 in cash, with many more exciting benefits to be announced. The two runner-ups will also win exciting prizes from our partners.
