Full-time internship in a startup or innovative company Take entrepreneurship courses on a part-time basis at Fudan University Opportunities to attend meet-ups and conferences organised by the Shanghai technology, startup, and business communities as well as activities within the University Host companies conduct mid-term and final internship evaluations Students have to submit 3 internship reports and present mid-term and final internship reviews to NUS Overseas Colleges and their host companies Students have to form teams and make business pitches to a NUS panel at the mid-term and final points of the programme Academic Details Expand The NOC Shanghai (1-year) programme is credit bearing and students will receive up to 40 units. Financial Details Expand Students should expect to pay some amount out of their own pocket for the monthly expenses they would have incurred if they had remained in Singapore. This personal contribution, together with the monthly stipend should be sufficient to cover the estimated monthly cost of living overseas at about SGD1,600. Students continue to pay regular tuition fees to NUS for the duration of the programme, while programme costs will be borne by NOC. Personal expenditures are expected to vary, as it depends on the individual preferences and lifestyle. NUS Overseas Colleges will provide or cover the following: Tuition fees for approved entrepreneurship courses at the partner university (if applicable) Internship assessor appointed to supervise student on internship Start-up mentorship for student *NUS student travel insurance & iSOS Services Cost of visa application Basic medical checkup fee at UHC Note: If students withdraw from NOC before or during the programme, any incurred costs, NOC funding support and/or awards, or Singapore government financial support must be returned to NOC/NUS on a pro-rated basis, depending on the stage of withdrawal. Students need to pay: ​Your regular tuition and other miscellaneous fees to NUS Regular overseas living expenses Additional expenses incurred for personal/recreational activities Repeat or additional medical tests, consultations, medications, or other treatments at UHC *All NUS students travelling overseas for activities or purposes approved, endorsed, organized, sponsored or authorised by NUS will be covered by the NUS Student Travel Insurance Policy. Programme Mentors Ian Goh Ian Goh is the Founding Partner at 01VC, a prominent early-stage investment firm. With a track record, Ian has played a pivotal role in shaping some of the groundbreaking companies, such as Lalamove, Xtransfer, and Hai Robotics. Before co-founding 01VC, Ian served as a Partner at Matrix Partners China, where he further honed his expertise in identifying and nurturing innovative ventures. His venture capital journey began at TDF Partner in 2004, which later merged into Kleiner Perkins China, where he held the position of Partner. In 2001, Ian joined Lycos Asia, an early-mover in the internet world. His journey at Lycos Asia began with corporate development and later transitioned to roles in business development. Born in Singapore, Ian spent the majority of his life there before pursuing higher education in Perth, Australia, where he earned a Bachelor's in Commerce from Murdoch University. Jackson Zhang Jackson Zhang is the deputy general manager of Tongji University Science and Technology Park. He is also the managing director of Tongji Qifan Ventures, a VC firm of Tongji University. It is a part of Tongji Innovation & Entrepreneurship Holdings Ltd - the holding company of Tongji University with AUM over 24 billion RMB. He was previously the Executive Director of Tongji Fund, a PE/VC FoF that manages Tongji's endowment and investment from Tongji alumni. Past portfolio includes GGV Capital, Hillhouse Capital, Lilly Asia Ventures, Sequoia China, Source Code Capital, etc. and companies like UCloud (SHA: 688158). He spent 2 years in the Bay area as Principal at Baruch Future Ventures. He holds a PhD from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BS (Vehicle Engineering) from Tongji University. Alex Wang Dr. Wang is a cross-border serial entrepreneur, senior executive and educator with rich and ground level experience in the US, Asia Pacific (particularly China), and Europe. Dr. Wang currently serves as the Founding and Managing Partner of China Impact Ventures (CIV) which is an investment company focusing on supporting early-stage startups in cleantech and mobility. Dr. Wang is also a Professor of Practice at the School of Management at Fudan University in Shanghai where he teaches MBA courses on cross-border innovation and entrepreneurship. Prior to his current role, Dr. Wang served as the General Manager of edX China, the massive online open course (MOOC) platform founded by MIT and Harvard. He was also the founder and CEO of an innovative eLearning company that developed the world’s first English learning immersive virtual world and launched a series of mobile apps that covered over 30 million Chinese students. Prior to his eLearning venture, Dr. Wang was a founding team member and Vice President of Business Development at a leading Internet-based Enterprise Supply and Contract Management software company based in the Boston area (acquired by IBM). Alex was responsible for global partnerships and channel sales, covering North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Dr. Wang also held various positions at Lucent Technologies and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Dr. Wang received BS in Applied Mechanics from Fudan University, PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech and MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. China Student Advisor Shannon Cheung Shannon Cheung is a distinguished professional with over two decades of experience in investment, corporate finance, and banking. Currently based in Beijing, Shannon has built an impressive career marked by leadership roles in several renowned organizations, including HSBC, Arctic Capital, and Averest Capital. His expertise spans across various sectors, including healthcare, technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT), making him a versatile and highly knowledgeable figure in the finance industry. Throughout his career, Shannon has been deeply involved in the growth and success of numerous startups. As a serial angel investor, he has invested in 40 startups, offering not only financial backing but also strategic guidance to help these companies thrive. His deep understanding of the financial markets, coupled with his hands-on approach to mentoring entrepreneurs, has been instrumental in the development of leading companies in the technology and healthcare sectors. Shannon's achievements extend beyond his professional endeavors. He co-founded several successful startups and has been recognized for his contributions to public service by the Hong Kong SAR government, receiving the Medal of Honour in 2014 and being appointed as Justice of the Peace in 2019. These accolades underscore his commitment to both his industry and his community. In addition to his role as Chairman and CEO of Averest Capital, Shannon is the Co-founder of Likang Life Sciences, Founding Investor and Director of Hero Entertainment, Co-founder and Vice-chairman of Global Business of VSPO, Co-founder and Director of DIB Group, Directors of All Football and Mr. Judy.
