My NOC Munich experience at Vaeridion GmbH was incredibly impactful. As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, I directly contributed to sustainable aviation projects, honing my technical skills in a fast-paced startup environment. The entrepreneurial classes I took at both TUM and NUS further enhanced my problem-solving abilities, business acumen, and product development skills, giving me a unique perspective on innovation. Getting to go through NOC, especially in Munich, was truly memorable and impactful. As a computer engineer and AI development intern at Erium, I gained a nuanced understanding of the dynamic AI landscape, and got to explore various avenues such as finance and marketing as well. In attending classes at TUM, working toward our own pitch and more, I was immersed in the vibrant startup scene in Munich and learnt a lot about the diverse workings of the field, and about myself. Being a part of NOC Munich was a life-changing experience. As a Marketing and Communications Intern at a food tech/health tech startup, I got to try my hand at many exciting projects such as designing our mascot and product packaging in a sector and environment I was previously unfamiliar with. The classes with TUM and NUS were also a fun opportunity to build and pitch a business idea from scratch, as well as interact and work with classmates from many parts of the world. Being on the other side of the world for 6 months encouraged me to take risks, built my independence, adaptability and many invaluable friendships with my batchmates đŸ™‚

I am Chew Yong Zhang, a fourth-year undergraduate in electrical engineering with a focus on hardware and space tech. During my internship at VÆRIDION, I contributed to the design of the Battery Management System for an electric aircraft, which greatly enhanced my technical skills in PCB design and validation. The NOC Munich programme also allowed me to travel across Europe, participate in hackathons in Bremen and Geneva, and expand my professional network. At the 1st European Spaceplane Hackathon, my team secured 2nd prize for our innovative pitch on hypersonic space planes, and at the ESA event in Geneva, we also earned 2nd prize for our project on using satellite data to monitor urban heat distribution. These experiences, combined with an entrepreneurial course at the Technical University of Munich, broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of the industry. I'm grateful for the invaluable learning and the opportunity to be part of a visionary company like VÆRIDION and part of NOC programme.

Multi Disciplinary Programme | Computer Engineering
My time with nextnano GmbH in Munich was a pivotal chapter in my entrepreneurial journey. As a Software and Business Intern, I played a key role in integrating the CRM system with our leads and customers, automating email communications and follow-ups. I also used CRM data to develop revenue forecasting scripts with Python and Jupyter Notebook, which were crucial for our company's strategic planning. This experience greatly advanced my skills in business operations and strategic analysis.
Complementing this was the entrepreneurial prototyping course at the Technical University of Munich, which focused on employing prototyping methods to develop and validate new products and business models. The course equipped me with essential techniques for identifying customer problems, generating ideas, and iteratively testing solutions. The combination of hands-on experience and academic learning fostered a strong entrepreneurial mindset that I will carry forward.
Additionally, immersing myself in European culture and working in an international setting broadened my worldview and enriched my professional journey. My NOC experience has been truly unparalleled and formative!

NOC Munich was truly an eye-opening adventure for me. From living and working overseas, where I interned as a software engineer with an energy pricing software company (Preisenergie GmbH), to the entrepreneurship classes taken with our partner university TUM, each experience provided me with numerous opportunities to learn and excel beyond my comfort zone. The time in NOC also allowed me to travel across Europe and learn about the different cultures it has to offer!
