Igniting The Spirit Of Innovation & Enterprise

Let’s look back at the key initiatives fronted by NUS Enterprise which served to inspire the entrepreneur in us:

Global Entrepreneurship Leadership Series and Other Seminars

We believe that to excel at what you do, it’s important to learn from the best in the business. So we invited who’s who of the business world to share their invaluable experience through our Global Entrepreneurship Leadership series of talks - from Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin to serial entrepreneur and business guru Steve Blank, as well as best-selling author Saul Singer. We also held other seminars featuring experienced individuals from industry such as venture capitalists and senior high tech leaders to share their knowledge and inspirational insights. These seminars regularly attracted quite a crowd – students, faculty members, entrepreneurs, investors and just about anyone from the entrepreneurial community, hence presenting with great opportunities to network and meet like-minded people.

Innovation & Enterprise Award

Jointly organised by NUS Enterprise and National University of Singapore Society (NUSS), the Innovation and Enterprise Award sought to recognise individuals and companies within the NUS community who have achieved significant accomplishments in entrepreneurship and innovation, or who have contributed to the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in Singapore in recent years. The award consisted of two portions – the NUS Outstanding Innovator Award and Promising NUS Start-Up Award, with previous winners consisting of individuals and companies who gone on to achieve considerable success, such as Clearbridge BioMedics, AYOXXA and Tan Min Liang of Razer.

Start-Up@Singapore (S@S) is a start-up challenge organized by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Entrepreneurship Centre, NUS Business School Alumni Association and NUS Entrepreneurship Society. Launched in 1999 and after 15 successful runs, Start-Up@Singapore was the market-leading business plan competition in Singapore. The competition and its outreach events attract competitors from around the world, with participants as young as 17 vying for prize money, incubation space, and additional grant funding to realize their entrepreneurial ambitions. Start-Up@Singapore has seen more than 3600 teams and 11,000 participants, and over 100 start-ups have been spawned from the event, with notable examples including tenCube, Biomers, Zimplistic, Milaap and many more going on to achieve success.

Global Start-Up@Singapore

After 15 successful runs of Start-Up@Singapore, a market-leading business plan competition, the changing landscape of start-up approaches led to the start of Global Start-Up@Singapore, a networking platform initiated to address the predominant challenge local entrepreneurs face, bringing their products and solutions to international markets. Partnering with NUS Business School and NUS Entrepreneurship Society, NUS Enterprise has evolved a successful business plan competition into a coalition of avenues for entrepreneurs to advance to the global marketplace. Global Start-Up@Singapore comprises a seminar series amongst other activities, the first of which was held in June 2014 and has since seen renowned individuals in the entrepreneurial scene like Ike Lee (Lee Technology Consulting) and Ming Lei (Baidu) share their experiences and knowledge on taking businesses global.
